Portable Power Unit Component Package
The Hydraulic Power Unit package has 3 main components:
- Honda Gas Engine Driven Power Unit
- Control Valve
- Probe Cylinder
Power Unit
The power unit is a complete hydraulic power package for operation of the Probe Cylinder . It is mounted in the bed of the truck, and operated from the cab via a remote engine start. The power unit features a quiet running, reliable 8HP Honda gas engine to ensure limited down time in the field. Coupled to this genuine Honda motor is a dual stage pump capable of 16 GPM with an inline relief to prevent damages. It also has a 10 gallon resevoir and battery for remote starts. All components are mounted onto a single easy to install frame. Operator simply starts the Power Unit engine from the cab of the probe truck, pulls down on the valve to engage the Probe Cylinder.
Control Valve
The valve is a four-way auto detent valve for automatic probe cylinder return, and is typically mounted right along side the cylinder probe in easy reach of the drivers arm. The valve is mounted on a piece of 1/8" thick plate steel, which gives it plenty of support for operation. Also on the top side of this plate is the key switch for the power unit. It is mounted here for easy reach and accesibility for starting the power unit. The operator simply pulls down on the valve handle to engage the probe cylinder. When the probe is completely stroked out or encounters resistance, the valve will automatically disengage and the probe cylinder will fully retract.
Cylinder Prode
The Cylinder Probe is our standard dual stage 42" stroke probe. Also available is our single stage 30" probe or our dual stage 50" probe for your deepest probing needs. This 42" 2-stage cylinder probe when mounted and driven correctly will allow the operator to extract samples at a depth of up to 48". It is manufactured with a quick tach roll pin 3/4" from the end of its shaft to enable quick attaching and unattaching soil sampling probe ends. The operator simply starts the Power Unit, engages the valve and the Probe cylinder extends through the floor of the probe truck, into the ground to the desired depth and retracts back into the cab of the probe truck. The operator then pulls off the probe sample end, deposits the soil sample in a sample container, moves to the next sample spot and repeats the process. Typical cycle times for extension are 5-6 seconds, and retraction time is much faster at only 2-3 seconds (times may vary depending on setup).
